Judcomm results too close to call, will be reported at LNC meeting this afternoon. Orders of day, AJOURNED!
140Chars isn’t enough room to explain why, but I think the ‘reformer’ faction may have pranged LNC Again AND judcomm too.
At-large winners: RUwart, Root, Redpath, Nolan, Knedler
Promotional: To those who noticed and liked the Thomas Paine and HS Thompson shirts I wore this weekend: literaryrags.com
The convention has name-checked, had moments of silence for, applauded, etc. Veterans. As a veteran, I ask that we KNOCK IT OFF.
My LNC votes: Wrights, Ruwart, Hill, Nolan, Sink-Burris
Sarwark will speak for Root. Bet u didn’t see THAT coming. His reasons are good.
Vallejo, Hill, Nolan
Chair is running for LNC, hands off gavel to vice chair. Nominations open. Stevens, Root, Knedler, Myers, Wrights, Burris, Gray, Sloan, Redpath, Ruwart, Dixon
Final session opens, credentials committee report. Thanks to key personnel, rounds of applause. 13 known candidates for LNC at large.
Libertarian National Convention fundraising banquet total: $55K. Not sure if this is a record or not, but it’s definitely on the high side.
Oaksun 319, Starr 133
Secretary outcome: mattson 265, Power 194
Secretary: Power v. Mattson. Mattson has establishment support (Colley, Sullentrup). Power supported by rads, ‘good governance’ types.
Rutherford 285, Marbry 201
Rutherford elected on first ballot, count to follow
Session extended to 5:30, vice chair nominations. Rutherford v. Marbry. Hall seems absent of rancor now that chair vote is over.
Hinkle, the 1916 Woodrow Wilson — he kept us out of the WAR. Hinkle thanks opponents, etc.
Root making concession speech: ‘You can’t get rid of me.’ will run for LNC at large.
Hinkle 281 Root 228
2Nd ballot 223 Root, 210 Hinkle, 87 Hancock
My guess is Hinkle nails it this ballot
2Nd ballot now.
Phillies eliminated. Myers withdraws, endorses Hinkle.
1st ballot results: Root 200, Hinkle 1113, Hancock 82, Myers 70, Phillies 55 TENTATIVE
This ‘teller’ system is rather cumbersome. No 1st ballot totals yet. But I do think today is probably VJ Day (WAR IS OVER!) redux.
Voting begins. Using tellers to verify integrity of vote.
Darryl Perry pulls real dick move to publicize BTP, nominates self then talks BTP from LP stage. As BTP founder, I repudiate that action.
Barry Hess 2nds. Claims Hancock started ‘Ron Paul Revolution.’ Badnarik 2nds. Ernie— freedom is answr. Shills in audience — what’s question.
Jim Duensing 2nds. Need to appeal to antiwar democrats, ron paul fans. Big tent LP needs to b big enough for libertarians. Jordan Page 2nds.
Hancock. Tony Wall of Tennessee nomin8s. Party educ8s new members, not changes to accommodate their false beliefs. Don’t move TO center, move center.
Lark 2nds Hinkle. Hinkle’s son 2nds, smacks Dakota Root w/o naming her (‘I wrote my own speech’). Geoff Neale 2nds Hinkle, cites experience.
Julie Fox seconds Hinkle. Who can say no to Julie. If my ballot wasn’t already filled out …
Oh snap. Power really smacked Root around w/o ever naming him. Now The Nolan is nominating Hinkle. Smacks Root, too. Hinkle will grow party.
Rob Power also seconds, credits George with bringing LPMA back from dead, defends against FEC smear.
Blau nominates Phillies. Doer not talker, works ass off for party, has turned LPMA around. Mcmahon seconds, talks about all the work he’s done,
Myers is real change. 2nd Texan, missed name, but nice humorous booster speech. Myers himself now. MUST … HAVE … CAFFEINE.
Good finish by Root. Next, Myers? It’s supposed to be reverse alphabetical … Did Phillies drop out? Don wills 4 Myers. More of same, vote Hinkle, Myers is
Root … ‘Like you’ theme to build audience ID. My applause meter puts him at 35-40%. LEEEEEEEEROYYYY ROOTKINS.
Dakota Root — I drank the Kool Aid daddy gave me.
Random order. Root 1st. Ed Coleman — Root is a spark. Mark Rutherford — Root will make ur wildest dreams come true.
Credentials committee report. Only 2 new delegates, so no apparent last minute packing. Approved. Chair going over rules 4 nomination speeches.
Resolution passes.
Motion is call to free Julian Heicklen & George Donnelly.
Gavel. Orders of the day. Sullentrup acknowledging convention organizers. Token of appreciation for Admiral Colley. Motion to suspend to pass resolution
Circulating flier features the Root ‘too pure’ quote and the STL Post-Dispatch story, w/ the Phillies ‘I’m 100% Libertarian’ position.
About to come back into session and get with the chair electing.
